Entry Value Block

The Entry Value block displays form field values from your data source (such as Gravity Forms submissions) in your email templates. This block provides extensive customization options to control how field values are displayed.

Adding an Entry Value Block

  1. While editing your email template, click theย “+”ย button to add a new block
  2. Search forย “Entry Value”ย or find it in theย “Form Submissions”ย category
  3. Click to insert the block

Note: Before using the Entry Value block, make sure you have enabled a dynamic data source (seeย Using real data while editing templates).

Selecting a Field

Primary Field

  1. Click on the Entry Value block to select it
  2. In the block settings panel (right sidebar), find theย “Field Settings”ย section
  3. Use theย “Select Field”ย dropdown to choose which form field to display
  4. Fields are organized by category (e.g., Form Fields, Entry Meta, User Data)

You can also select a field using the toolbar:

  • Click theย tag iconย in the block toolbar
  • Choose a field from the dropdown menu

Additional Fields

You can combine multiple fields into a single Entry Value block:

  1. After selecting a primary field, clickย “Add Another Field”ย in the Field Settings panel
  2. For each additional field:
    • Set aย separatorย (default is a space) – this text appears between the primary field and the additional field
    • Select the field from the dropdown
  3. Additional fields will only display if they have a value
  4. Remove additional fields using the trash icon

Example: Combine First Name and Last Name with a space separator to display “John Doe”

Value Type Options

The Entry Value block supports different value types to format how the field value is displayed.

String (Default)

Displays the field value as plain text. This is the default option and works for most field types.

Boolean

Converts the field value to a boolean (true/false) and displays custom text.

Settings:

  • True Value: Text to display when the value is truthy (e.g., “Yes”, “Active”, “โœ“”)
  • False Value: Text to display when the value is falsy (e.g., “No”, “Inactive”, “”)

How it works:

  • Values like “1”, “true”, “yes” are considered truthy
  • Values like “0”, “false”, “no”, or empty are considered falsy
  • If the value is truthy, it shows the “True Value” text
  • If the value is falsy, it shows the “False Value” text (or nothing if left empty)

Date

Formats date field values using PHP date format strings.

Settings:

  • Date Format: PHP date format string (e.g.,ย F j, Yย for “January 1, 2025”)

Common Date Formats:

  • F j, Yย – January 1, 2025
  • m/d/Yย – 01/01/2025
  • Y-m-dย – 2025-01-01
  • l, F j, Yย – Wednesday, January 1, 2025
  • M j, Yย – Jan 1, 2025

Note: If no date format is provided, the original value is displayed.

Image

Displays the field value as an image.

Settings:

  • Image Width: Set the width of the image (supports px, em, rem units)

The field value should be a URL to an image. The block will render an <img> tag with the specified width.

Label Settings

Control how the field label is displayed alongside the value.

Display Label

Toggle to show or hide the field label. When enabled, the field’s label (or custom label) appears with the value.

Display Label Separator

Toggle to show or hide the separator between the label and value (e.g., the colon in “Name: John”).

Custom Label

Override the default field label with custom text. This is useful when:

  • You want a shorter or different label
  • The field label is too long
  • You want to customize the label for the email context

Note: The custom label is automatically populated with the field’s label when you first select a field, but you can edit it.

Label Separator

The text that appears between the label and value. Default is : (colon and space).

Examples:

  • :ย – Name: John
  • -ย – Name – John
  • :ย – Name: John (with trailing space preserved)

Inline Label

Controls whether the label and value appear on the same line (inline) or stacked vertically.

  • Off (Stacked): Label appears above the value
  • On (Inline): Label and value appear side by side

Bold Label

Makes the label text bold.

Label Size

Set a custom font size for the label (supports px, em, rem units).

Label Width

When “Inline Label” is enabled, you can set a fixed width for the label column. This helps align multiple Entry Value blocks.

  • Supports px and % units
  • Useful for creating aligned lists of field/value pairs

Value Settings

Bold Value

Makes the field value text bold.

Hide Block if No Value

When enabled (default), the entire Entry Value block is hidden if the field has no value. This is useful for:

  • Conditional display of fields
  • Cleaner email templates that only show relevant information
  • Avoiding empty spaces in your emails

When disabled, the block will still display (showing just the label if configured) even when the value is empty.

Text Alignment

Use the alignment controls in the block toolbar to align the text:

  • Left (default)
  • Center
  • Right

Styling Options

The Entry Value block supports standard block styling options:

  • Colors: Background color, text color, heading color (for labels)
  • Typography: Font size, font family, font weight, line height, letter spacing, text transform, text decoration
  • Spacing: Padding
  • Borders: Border radius, border color, border width, border style

Access these options in the block settings panel under the respective sections.

  2. Combine Related Fields: Use additional fields to combine related information (e.g., address components)
  3. Hide Empty Fields: Keep “Hide Block if No Value” enabled to avoid showing empty fields
  4. Consistent Formatting: Use the same label width across multiple Entry Value blocks for alignment
  5. Test with Real Data: Use dynamic data to preview how your Entry Value blocks look with actual form submissions
  6. Date Formats: Test your date formats to ensure they display correctly
  7. Image Sizing: Set appropriate image widths to ensure images display well in email clients

Troubleshooting

Field Not Showing

  • Verify a data source is selected in the Dynamic Data Source panel
  • Check that the field exists in the selected form
  • Ensure the field has a value (if “Hide Block if No Value” is enabled)

Date Not Formatting

  • Verify the date format string is correct PHP date format
  • Check that the field value is actually a date
  • Test with a simple format first (e.g.,ย Y-m-d)

Image Not Displaying

  • Verify the field value is a valid image URL
  • Check that the URL is accessible
  • Some email clients may block external images

Additional Fields Not Appearing

  • Ensure the additional field has a value (empty fields are automatically excluded)
  • Check the separator setting
  • Verify the field key is correct
